One of the early quests that might give you headaches in Phantom Blade Zero is the one involving answering three questions from the gentle thief, as part of the Honor Among Thieves side quest.
While the stakes are low – you can retry the test over and over again – getting it right without trial and error is preferable, as it gives you more time for doing more of the fun things.
And that’s what I am here to help you with today: share the correct answers for the thief’s questions in Phantom Blade Zero. Let’s jump right in!
All Gentle Thief Answers
Question 1: “So, tell me, what did he do at thirteen that he never stopped bragging about?“
- A: Smashed the luminous pearl.
- B: Stole a patron’s jade belt. (Correct)
- C: Stole a Mandate leader’s ledger.
- D: Set fire to the local granary.
Question 2: “Next…the hairpin that doomed him for life. Do you know what its head looked like?”
- A: Phoenix.
- B: Peony.
- C: Butterfly. (Correct)
- D: Mandarin Ducks.
Question 3: “Then tell me…do you know what became of that poor family’s child?“
- A: Taken in by the Mandate.
- B: Taken in by a patron.
- C: Taken in by the authorities.
- D: The letter didn’t mention the child. It seems his fate is unknown. (Correct)
That’s it! You know the correct answers and you can grab your nice reward (more about it at the end of this article) and move on.

Step One: Find a Dead Thief’s Mail
Everything starts with the Blood Letter From The Nimble Thief, which also counts as an entry in the Wulin Tales Book. It sits off the main road, so you have to go looking for it.
Head to the Outlaw Trap bell, where the path splits. Take the right path, the one that leads away from Jing Ye, The Outlaw, and follow it as it curves up the hillside to the left.
This spot is just south of the bell. At the top of the hill you will find the Nimble Thief, and picking up the Blood Letter adds Honor Among Thieves to your quest log. Your objective is to deliver the letter to his brother, the Gentle Thief.

Step Two: Pay the Jing Ye Toll
With the letter in hand, go back to the split at the Outlaw Trap bell and take the left path this time. The route to the Thieves’ Camp runs straight through Jing Ye, the Outlaw, so there is no sneaking past him with a letter in your pocket.
Jing Ye is a mounted boss, and the first stage is a lesson in dodging horse charges. Slip out of the way of each charge, then punish him with combos in the gaps between his attacks. Once the horse is beaten, he dismounts and walks at you on foot with a sword and shield.
The shield is the second stage. You have to break through it before you can finish him, and the Dread Axe is the tool for that job, as the earlier boss fights have probably already shown you.
Once the shield is gone, finish him off, then keep following the path forward until you reach the Thieves’ Camp.
Step Three: Find the Gentle Thief’s Tent
The Gentle Thief lives inside the first tent on your left in the Thieves’ Camp. Talk to him to hand over the letter.
He does not take your word, or the letter’s, at face value. He quizzes you with three multiple-choice questions about the Nimble Thief.
You can get answers wrong and try again, but you need to get all three right in a row. Guessing is a bad plan, but you already have the answers.
The Reward
Correctly answering the Gentle Thief’s questions will reward you with the Silent Wrap accessory, which completes the quest.
It’s a useful item that cuts the noise from your footsteps and Assassinations by 50%. If you like creeping up on enemies from good positions and picking them off before they notice, it earns a slot.
