Much like the first game, Octopath Traveler 2 has a lot of secrets for players to find. The secret with the biggest payoff is the hunt for the 8 Legendary Weapons.
In this guide, I will go over how players can obtain the Legendary Sunshadow Staff in Octopath Traveler 2.
For those of you who want to have a general idea of where to look, but not get spoiled on how to get it, I have you covered.
You will need to head to Gravel on the Windlands and have Tremenos in your party for his Path Action. One of the NPCs there hides a dark secret.
Before attempting to obtain the Legendary Staff, it would be advisable to be around level 40, because this is one of the harder challenges in the game.
If you have trouble leveling up while playing the game, check out our guide on how to level up fast, in Octopath Traveler 2.
How to start the Quest
Once you enter the city of Gravel, during the day you will see three kids in a triangle between the Inn and the Kiln.
If you talk to the boys they will be annoyed with the girl always telling them scary stories, but if you dig a little deeper and use Scrutinize on the boy on the right, you will find out his terrifying secret.
The boy is afraid of almost everything, so he asks his STuFfed Toy for help. His STuFfed Toy devours his soul piece by piece so he can longer feel fear. Cheery thoughts. If you try to Steal it you won’t be able to. So how do you proceed with your quest?
Head out of town, and head to the cliff on the left. You will need to be at night time, and after that, you will have to wait for the small window between dusk and dawn for the boy to appear. Think around 3 to 5 minutes of wait time.
He will walk by himself outside the town and stand at the side of the cliff. Once the get into position and you get the prompt to talk to him, use the Coerce Path Action Tremenos has and fight him.
Instead of the little boy, you will find yourself going up against a dark entity called Shadow Boy with 15 shields.
This is the first you need to complete to get the Sunshadow Staff, in Octopath Traveler 2
Strategy for the Boss
First of all, you need to be careful of the attack Deadly Gaze. No matter how you decide to fight against it. Deadly Gaze causes a status that will kill you in four turns.
A viable strategy is to have your Tremenos unlock the Cleric support skill Rise again, which you gain upon unlocking 7 skills.
Rise Again: The equipping character will recover with 25% of their max HP once per battle, upon being incapacitated.
Also, have Tremenos be in the Scholar secondary job. You will want him to have the Elemental Barrage skill.
Elemental Barrage: Deal either fire, ice, or lightning-based damage to random foes 3 to 5 times, 4 to 6 times, 5 to 7 times, and 6 to 8 times depending on the Boost.
You will also want to have your Latent Power fully charged before entering the fight. Be sure to stock up on Empowering Lychees to refill your Latent Power gauge.
The Shadow Boy is weak to Staves, Lightning magic, and Light magic.
The strategy goes as follows:
- Use the basic staff attacks until your BP is stored
- When you have enough BP stored
- Use Elemental Barrage x4 + Latent Power
Rinse and repeat until you win the fight. Use your Empowering Lychees freely to have your Latent Powers able to be used, and be mindful of your health management, throughout the fight.
Once you defeat the Shadow Bow, you’ll get a bit of flavor text that does not explain why the entity is eating the boy’s soul. A hidden Item will be revealed below the nearby tree, and once you claim it the Sunshadow Staff is yours.
This is the final step on how to get the Sunshadow Staff, in Octopath Traveler 2.
Conclusion
In conclusion, these have been all the steps you have to follow, to get the Sunshadow Staff, in Octopath Traveler 2.
Although the story behind the item is really sad, your reward will be really powerful and worth the items, and the time you will have to spend preparing for this fight.
