The 1.20 Trails & Tales upgrade introduced a variety of new items, mechanics, and mobs. This includes the new plant known as the Pitcher Plant.
In this guide, I will showcase how to get the Pitcher Plant, how to farm it, and how it is used when it comes to feeding animals and taming them.
In order to get the Pitcher Plant you will need to enlist the help of a Sniffer. These new little mobs were introduced in 1.20 Trails & Tales.
Aside from decorations, the Pitcher Plants do not have many other uses as of 1.20 Trails & Tales, but that doesn’t mean savvy players won’t find a way to use these amazing plants.

Minecraft: Everything You Need to Know About Pitcher Pods and Pitcher Plants
Sniffers occasionally bury their noses in the ground and start digging. Once the sniffer has finished digging, one pitcher pod has a chance to be dropped on the floor as an item.
A pitcher pod is an ancient bulbous seed, and it is the seed for Pitcher Plants.
Sniffers can dig up seeds from any of the following blocks:
- Dirt
- Grass
- Podzol
- Coarse Dirt
- Rooted Dirt
- Moss Block
- Mud
- Muddy Mangrove Roots
Pitcher pods can be placed on farmland by using, where they grow through three stages as a pitcher crop. Breaking the final stage produces one two-block tall pitcher plant.
Pitcher crops break if pushed by a piston or if their supporting farmland breaks or turns to dirt, dropping their usual drops.
Aside from farming, the Bedrock Edition of Minecraft offers players two more options for the pitcher pod.
- Pitcher Pods can be used to breed chickens and reduces the remaining growth duration of chicks by 10%.
- Pitcher Pods can be used to tame parrots.
When a Pitcher Pod grows into its final stage, it becomes a pitcher plant. Pitcher plants can be broken instantly with any item or by hand.
Pitcher plants also break if water or lava runs over its location, or if a piston extends or pushes a block into its location.
Aside from beautiful decorations around the house, Pitcher Plants can also be crafted into 2 cyan dyes.
Minecraft: How to Find the Right Sniffers for the Job
Sniffers are a little tricky to find in Minecraft 1.20 Trails & Tales.
By using the new Archaeology mechanic, you will be able to dig around for an egg. Crafting a Brush (place vertically Feather + Copper Ingot + Stick), you can dig around suspicious sand or gravel blocks to excavate Sniffer eggs.
These eggs can only be found in warm oceanic ruins. Compared to their counterparts, these ruins are mainly made from sandstone.
If you are lucky enough to get two eggs, you will be able to get a whole army of Sniffers through breeding.
