If you’re facing performance issues in LotR Return to Moria such as computer restarting without warning, crashes, and more, here’s what to do.
These issues are common, especially since the game launched recently and the devs are still working on optimizing it.
In this guide, I will list all possible solutions to help you fix performance issues such as lagging, crashing, freezing, FPS drops, and more.
How to Fix LotR Return to Moria Performance Issues
LotR: Return to Moria has had a challenging launch since many players have been facing all types of performance issues. These range from random computer restarts without warning, crashing, lagging, freezing, stuttering, and even the occasional black screen.
Thankfully, there are various solutions to try for these fixes. Keep in mind that it’s important to try all of these solutions and hope for the best. After all, there’s no one solution for everything, so make sure not to skip any steps.
Without further delay, here’s what you can do when facing performance issues in LotR Return to Moria.
Restart PC & Check for Windows Updates
The first and simplest step is to check for Windows Updates and restart your PC (restart regardless if there are Windows updates or not).
To check for updates, head to Update & Security on Windows Settings.
Rename OpenXR Folder
Find the game on your library, click on the three dots next to it, then ‘Manage’, and lastly click the folder icon next to ‘Installation’. Follow this path:
- Engine ->Binaries ->Third Party
There, find the OpenXR folder and rename it to ‘OpenXR.new’.
Run the Game as Administrator
Follow the same process as above and click the folder icon to find the local files. Now, right-click on the Moria.exe file and select ‘Run as administrator’.
Alternatively, head to the Moria ->Binaries ->Win64 and launch the ‘Moria-Win64-Shipping’ as an administrator.
Close Game via Task Manager
Start by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open Task Manager, and close anything related to LotR: Return to Moria from both the apps and the background processes tabs.
Some games don’t close fully after pressing the ‘x’ button and closing everything through the task manager can often fix issues that don’t allow the game to start.
Check for GPU Driver Updates
Access your GPU software (Nvidia or AMD) and check if there are any available updates. You can also consider doing a clean installation of GPU Drivers from the official Nvidia site or the official AMD site.
Delete Save Files
On Windows search, type ‘%appdata%’, and from the file path above, go one file back to the AppData one. From there, select ‘Local’ and then delete the whole Moria folder.
Keep in mind that this will delete any save files you had and you’ll need to start from scratch again.
Reinstall the Game
If everything else fails, your best bet is to uninstall the game and download it again. Consider also downloading it on a different disk if you have the option.
Wait for an Update
If nothing works at all, wait for the next optimization update that has been scheduled for the first week of November and will fix over 100 bugs.
Wrapping up
In conclusion, you can fix any LotR Return to Moria performance issues including crashing, freezing, FPS drops, and PC restarts without warning by trying all the aforementioned solutions.
Since the same solution won’t work for everyone, it’s important to try all of them.
