In the first chapter of the Painter’s story, players will find themselves in a room with a fireplace, various paintings, and a locked box. This is the first locked box they’ll encounter during the playthrough.
To find the code for this box, players will need to interact with three candles next to paintings around the room. Each candle will reveal one number of the code.

How to Find the Code for the First Box in Layers of Fear
When entering this room, you’ll notice a fireplace straight ahead of you. Also, there will be a box on top of a drawer on the left side of the room. This box will be locked and will require a combination of three numbers to open.
This box will have the text “Look Closer” written on the wall above it.
To open the first box in Layers of Fear, players will need to explore this room and find three paintings. Next to the three paintings, there will be candles that can be lit.
You will need to interact will all three candles before being able to progress, so simply adding the code or trying to guess it won’t help.
When players light a candle, the nearby painting will change slightly and reveal a number. Repeat this on all three paintings to get the three numbers you need.
The first painting will be above the main fireplace and will showcase a fox. Interact with the candles on their right side to reveal the first number.
Just right of the fireplace, you’ll find the second painting which looks like a rat.
The third and final painting is on the right of the rat, after the window. It is the painting of a white horse located on the right side of the room, just opposite of the locked box.
Now interact with the box and add the codes in the order mentioned. First the fox, then the rat, and lastly the horse.
