Disney Speedstorm includes a wide variety of characters to choose from and most of them need to be unlocked first. Additionally, each character can be upgraded to increase their overall stats.
Players can unlock and upgrade characters by using Shards and Upgrade Parts. There are various methods to gain those, including daily challenges and the shop.

How to Unlock Characters in Disney Speedstorm
Characters are split into three categories, based on their rarity:
- Common
- Rare
- Epic
Each character can be unlocked after collecting 10 of their character-specific Racer Shards. These Shards can be found in various ways but their drop chance will depend on the character’s rarity.
Racer Shards for an Epic Racer will be significantly harder to get compared to ones for a Common Racer.
How to Upgrade Characters in Disney Speedstorm
Once unlocking a Racer, they will be 1-Star Racer. To increase their star rating, you will need to collect more Shards.

| 2 | 20 | Allows you to use Normal and Charged Skill. Increases max Racer level to 25. |
| 3 | 35 | Allows you to add an extra Crew Member – 2 total. Increases max Racer level to 35. |
| 4 | 50 | Allows you to add an extra Crew Member – 3 total. Increases max Racer level to 45. |
| 5 | 85 | Allows you to add an extra Crew Member – 4 total. Increases max Racer level to 55. |
With the required Star level unlocked, you are now able to level up your character up to a specific point.
To level up your character in Disney Speedstorm, go to the ‘Collections’ menu from the top left side of the Main Menu, select the collection you’re interested in, and then the character you want to level up. Lastly, select ‘Edit Racer’ from the bottom right side.
From there, you can see all the required resources for leveling up your character. Leveling up will increase your character’s primary stat, which depends on their role (e.g. Boost for Brawlers).
How to Get Upgrade Parts in Disney Speedstorm
To upgrade your characters, you will need to get Upgrade Parts. There are two types of parts: common and rare.
Common parts are used for every Racer in the game and can be gained by completing various races and daily challenges.
Rare parts are usable only for racers in a specific collection. For instance, the Alarm Clock can only be used to upgrade characters from Mickey Mouse.
The best place to get Upgrade Parts in Disney Speedstorm is the shop. The shop rotates daily, so it’s important to check it out every day until you get the Shards or Parts you need.
Alternatively, Shards and Parts can be gained by opening reward boxes after races, completing daily challenges, and progressing the battle pass.
