Demonologist is a very difficult game, with plenty of challenges scattered around. And one of the most difficult ones for me is that of opening Maria’s Room.
And today, I am here to share with you my progress to finding the key and opening Maria’s Room in Demonlogist – one of the biggest puzzles (and probably Easter Eggs) that the devs have for us.
You can find Maria’s room in the second map you unlock in the game, Cyclone street. Just go down to the basement and you will find it to the left of the stairs.
As you can see in the photo above, it is locked, but has a heart drawn on it, which reads “Maria Room.” There’s also a key drawn on the heart.
I have to admit that I’ve been playing Demonologist like crazy recently (probably the main reason I have nightmares now).
But, at the moment of writing, I still haven’t managed to open the room. I FEEL that I am getting closer, but I have no idea if there’s any progress.
So, let’s talk about progress and – maybe with your help – we’ll manage to complete this task together and solve this mystery!
How to open Maria’s Room in Demonlogist
It looks like we need to find some sort of a key to open the room. But I have the feeling that it is not an actual, physical key. We’re talking about ghosts and spirits here after all!
Here’s the riddle that is supposed to help you get the key and unlock Maria’s Room in the game, given by the developers of the Demonologist game:
I keep staring at walls, losing track of Time. A descent into Madness, words start becoming untrue. A crimson-soaked blade, the blood of the heart is due.
A dream of the dead consumes mem, haunting my every thought. The abuse lies within, or so I was taught.
Love’s door remains locked, as the clock strikes three. My wrath contained within, waiting for the key.
This world I inhabit, where the line of madness is blurred, can only be solved in particular steps and words.
I scream into the void, hoping my voice will carry. For if I don’t speak my truth, they’ll come for me… Mary.
It’s all in my head. It’s all in my head. It’s all in my head.
Here is the progress so far, based on some of the clues that you can find around you. (Some of these might still not be related to unlocking Maria’s room, though, but I will still list them):
1. The “words you choose matter” probably refers to the book with LIMBO written on it that you can find in the bookcase. If you say the word limbo in front of it, the bookcase disappears, revealing a hidden room (but not Maria’s room).
2. The “Mary in blood” reference is related to the mirror in the bathroom, where you get a huge splash if you say “Bloody Mary” three times in front of the mirror. But it’s not clear how that helps.
3. Saying the words you can find at the end of the hallway (We Come for You – or something like that).
When you say the words, you can hear laughter (so the madness, I guess) and the crosses drop off the walls, including those in the hidden room we’ve uncovered above.
4. Setting all the clocks to 3 o’clock seems a logical way to connect the part of the puzzle that says “when the clocks strike three” – but apparently, that doesn’t do anything.
My next plan here is to actually play the game when it’s 3 o’clock in real life. Changing the system’s clock might also work – I will keep you updated if there’s any progress on this front.
5. I also believe that the “Void” thing might be related with the cards – we have a “Void” card that we can draw, but I’m again not sure how these connect. Maybe it has something to do with the Spirit Box, which allows you to speak with ghosts in the game.
6. There is also a phrase you are supposedly expected to say, everything being presented in a figurative way.
So Maria’s room is not an actual room (that you can unlock), but her heart. The blade shattering the heart means a broken heart (“the love’s door”). You need to find the key to Maria’s heart.
So… it appears that you have to say “The Key to Maria’s Heart”. (according to this discussion). However, nothing happened when I did so… really stuck like most of the players.
So for now, I keep exploring. It’s fun to have this as a side-quest that I am obsessing about while I am trying to identify and exorcise all spirits in the game. I will keep you updated with any progress here.
Wrapping up
Unlocking Maria’s door in Demonologist is indeed a tricky quest. It’s not clear how to do it at the moment, but I am not the only one who’s trying to get this solved.
