Demonologist is one of those amazing games that takes everything to the next level. And “next level” in this case is speaking with entities in the game – aka the spirits you have to find and exorcise.
But how to speak to entities in Demonologist? What are the phrases that you can say to hope for a response? What else to do with the Spirit Box in the game? We’re going to answer all these questions in today’s article!
And speaking of answering questions, make sure to check out my full guide on how to identify and exorcise entities in Demonologist.
How to use the Spirit Box in Demonologist

The Spirit Box is one of the most useful tools in the game, as it helps you do all sorts of actions, including speaking (or trying to communicate) with the spirits.
In order to use the Spirit Box for trying to talk with the entities, you need to have it equipped. Then, press the left mouse button to activate it and speak.
If you are in the correct room (where the entity is found), and if the entity is one that can reply, you will hear it talk back. It’s not guaranteed to work in the first try.
Also, as we will see below, you can still get the spirits to talk to you even if you don’t actually say any phrases into the microphone. But you still need to have the Spirit Box equipped and press the left mouse button.
Do you need a microphone to use the Spirit Box?
Yes, you need a working microphone to be able to say various phrases in the Spirit Box in the game. A microphone is also recommended for chatting with your teammates in case you are not playing the game alone.

However, you can still use the Spirit Box and get an almost full experience from the Demonologist game even if you don’t have a microphone.
Simply pressing the left mouse button and hitting the “V” key on your keyboard will act as “talking” to the ghosts. You can still get an answer from them, even if you don’t have a working mic.
Also, if you are playing this in co-op mode and at least one of the other players has a microphone, they can use it to talk to spirits.
What questions to ask the ghosts via the Spirit Box?
Some ghosts will answer immediately, while others require either to be provoked, or a different setting. Some, for example, will only answer if there’s just you (or one person) in a room.
Either way, here are the questions you can ask in Demonologist and you can expect to get an answer:
- Can you speak?
- Where are you?
- What is your age?
- What is your name?
- Are you angry?
- Are you here / close / near?
- How old are you?
- What is my sanity?
- What do you want?
- How do you feel?
The questions above are confirmed to receive answers. I will update the list if more questions are found. Please help me keep this list complete by sharing any questions you have asked that have resulted in an answer.
PRO TIP: Look at the list of entities in the game and check out their weaknesses and details. Some of them will have higher chances of reacting to specific words (for example, if you swear too much, the danger meter will increase).
Use that info to your advantage when talking into the microphone, ideally with the Spirit Box equipped to increase the chances of the ghost “picking up” your voice.
How to know if an entity answers in Demonologist

The easiest way to know if a spirit is answering your questions is hearing them. You will hear their lovely voice eventually.
Another way to tell that the spirits are answering your question (even if they don’t reply) is to look at the ghost indicator on the top right of the box. If it lights up, you’re getting an answer.
Wrapping up
This would be the complete guide to talking to entities in Demonologist, as well as using the Spirit Box to do the talking.
