This City of Heroes Enhancements guide will explain how to enhance your powers and list all available enhancements in the game.
You can get Enhancements by completing missions, trials, and raids, and there’s a wide variety available to optimize your build.
Let’s go through everything you need to know.
How Enhancements Work in City of Heroes
Enhancements in City of Heroes are upgrades to your archetype’s powers. You can access them from the power bar menu by selecting manage. There, you’ll see that each of your powers has various empty slots where you can place enhancements.
The most important thing to note is that each enhancement you unlock has one or more origins. You can only equip enhancements that have the same origin as yours. The rest, you should sell on the auction or to a vendor as they’re useless to you.
How to Get Enhancements
To get enhancements in CoH, you’ll need to progress the game by completing missions, trials, and any type of content in general. As you do that, enhancements will be added to the power bar menu mentioned above.
However, since you can only equip enhancements with the same origin as yours, finding the one you want might take a while. Thankfully, there is an alternative option on how to get them, which is via the auction house.
All Enhancements Types
Currently, there are four types of enhancements in City of Heroes, and here are all of them:
- Single Origin Enhancements (SO): Overall, these are the strongest origin-specific enhancements for your build. Each has only one Origin slot but offers the highest possible bonuses for that Origin. If you can get them for your Origin, they will significantly upgrade your build. However, you can only fit SOs based on your level (you can’t fit a level 15 SO if you’re level 20).
- Dual Origin Enhancements (DO): DO are the weaker counterpart of SO enhancements as they buff two origins but only slightly. If you get one of those with an origin you’re using, equip it for now, but you’ll need to replace it later as you optimize your build. However, similar to SOs, you can fit DOs that are the same as your current level.
- Invention Enhancements (IO): IO enhancements can only be obtained via crafting, come in sets, and don’t have origin requirements, so they can be used in any build.
- Hamidon Origin Enhancements (HO): Lastly, HO enhancements can only be obtained via raiding (Hamidon in The Hive & Hamidon in The Abyss).
There are also more raid-exclusive enhancements, such as Crystal Titan Origin and Hydra Origin, but they are only available in levels 40-43, and most players completely skip them.
Wrapping up
To summarize, enhancements in City of Heroes are upgrades to your current power and offer bonuses depending on your origin. You can get them by completing missions and trials or buy them from the auction.
In total, there are four enhancement types, with the best ones varying based on your current level and progression. Just make sure to use some type of enhancement since they greatly benefit your build
