In this guide, I will showcase how to complete the “Portrait in a Pickle” quest in Hogwarts Legacy by explaining how to locate the missing frame and what to do with it.

Portrait in a Pickle Quest Starting Location in Hogwarts Legacy
To begin this quest, players will need to fast travel to the Library Floo Flame, which is in the Library Annex. Without moving at all, they’ll be able to hear the portrait talking right next to them.
Keep in mind that to complete this quest, players will need to have Alohomora II unlocked, which is done by collecting Demiguise Moons and handing them over to Mr. Moon.
Interact with the portrait of Ferdinard Octavius Pratt on the right side to begin the quest.
Ferdinard will mention that his second frame, which was located in the Three Broomsticks in Hogsmeade, has been stolen and will task the player with retrieving it.
Portrait in a Pickle Quest Guide in Hogwarts Legacy
First, players will need to talk to Astoria Crickett in the Three Broomsticks. She will reveal the location of the missing frame.
Now, to find the ruins where Ferdinard’s other frame is being held, players should fast travel to the closest Floo Flame they have near Marunweem, at the southeast corner of the map.
From there, follow the quest tracker (up on the D-pad) to locate the ruins.
Keep in mind that the ruins will be filled with Ashwinders, so players will have to fight their way through.
After defeating all enemies, use the quest tracker again to find stairs leading down toward the dungeon where the portrait frame is located.
Use Alohomora II to open the locked door and you’ll find the portrait in front of you.
What to Do With the Portrait of Ferdinard Octavius Pratt
When interacting with the portrait, players will have to choose certain dialogue options, which will affect what will be done with the portrait. Specifically, there are three possible outcomes:
- Return the portrait to The Three Broomsticks – Select “Let’s get out of here” and return it to The Three Broomsticks.
- Bring the portrait to Hog’s Head – Select “Returning you to the Three Broomsticks isn’t my only option” and “I could take you to the Hog’s Head instead”. Then bring it to the Hog’s Head location.
- Burn the portrait – Select “Returning you to the Three Broomsticks isn’t my only option” and “I could burn you”. Then use Incendio or Confringo to burn the portrait.
Keep in mind that the option you choose will only affect the next and final cutscene of the quest. It will not affect the main story in any way.
For the shorter option, I recommend burning the portrait as it completes the quest without having to go anywhere. Otherwise, the more fun option is to bring it to Hog’s Head, where they’ll use it for target practice.
