Whiteout Survival Pets Guide

When pets first dropped in Whiteout Survival and my server unlocked them, I underestimated their value – and I wasn’t the only one doing so. A lot of players ignored the feature, but the savvy ones leveraged it to power up faster and dominate in battles.

If you’re here to learn how pets work in Whiteout Survival, you’re at the right place – this guide covers everything you need to know.

Overview of Pets in Whiteout Survival

Pets are divided into six generations, in a similar fashion to the heroes. Unlocking them requires completing tasks, earning rewards, and advancing through battles.

Each generation includes pets with unique abilities that enhance various skills and makes them more useful in the main categories – like gathering resources, fighting or overall survival.

Quick Facts About Pets

Here’s a quick summary of everything you need to know about the pets in Whiteout Survival:

  • Unlocking Requirements:
    • Generation 1 pets require your state to be at least 55 days old, with the furnace at level 18.
    • Subsequent generations require earlier pets to reach specific upgrade levels.
  • Leveling and Advancements:
    • Pets gain skills and effectiveness as you level them up.
    • Advancements every 10 levels need pet food, taming manuals, energizing potions, and strengthening serums.
  • Pet Adventures: A valuable way to farm resources for pet upgrades, such as food and manuals.
  • Refinement: Common and advanced wild marks enhance your pets’ stats.

Make sure to pair your pets with the best heroes in Whiteout Survival to have the best base possible.

How to Unlock Your First Pet

Your first pet unlocks after your state hits 55 days and the furnace reaches level 18. At that point, the game introduces you to catching your first pet – Cave Hyena. A tutorial walks you through the process – but the next ones won’t be as easy to unlock.

Whiteout Survival Pets by Generation

Each generation unlocks after a set number of days and requires earlier pets to reach specific levels.

Here’s what each pet does, and which generation they belong to.

Generation 1 Pets

  • Cave Hyena (Common): Increases construction speed by 5-15% for 5 minutes. Great for builders.
  • Arctic Wolf (Uncommon): Restores Chief Stamina, enabling more daily activities.
  • Musk Ox (Uncommon): Speeds up resource gathering with reduced cooldown as it levels up. At level 1, the Musk Ox has a 10-hour cooldown, which decreases to 6 hours at max level.

Generation 2 Pets

  • Giant Tapir (Rare): Finds pet food, essential for upgrades. Unlocks after Musk Ox reaches level 15.
  • Titan Roc (Rare): Reduces enemy troop health and gains power as it levels up. Requires Giant Tapir at level 15.

Generation 3 Pets

Unlock Giant Elk and Snow Leopard after reaching Furnace Level 20.

  • Giant Elk (Epic): Finds lost items in the Tundra. Unlocks after Titan Roc reaches level 15. The Giant Elk’s cooldown period starts at 12 hours, which reduces with upgrades to 8 hours at the highest level.
  • Snow Leopard (Epic): Boosts speed and reduces enemy troop lethality. Requires Giant Elk at level 15.

Generation 4 Pets

Unlock Cave Lion and Snow Ape after reaching Furnace Level 25.

  • Cave Lion (Legendary): Boosts troop attack by 2.5-10% for 2 hours. Unlocks after Snow Leopard reaches level 15.
  • Snow Ape (Legendary): Increases squad capacity by 3,000-15,000 for 2 hours. Unlocks after 200 days. Snow Ape’s ability has a cooldown of 24 hours, consistent across all levels.

Generation 5 Pets

Unlock Iron Rhino and Saber-tooth Tiger after reaching 280 days.

  • Iron Rhino (Epic): Insipired by the stampeding beasts, Rally Capacity is increased by up to 150.000 for 2 hours and needs 20 hours for cooldown.
  • Saber-tooth Tiger (Legendary): Elite predators join the ranks, increasing Troops Lethality by up to 10% for 2 hours, with a cooldown period of 20 hours.

Generation 6 Pet

Unlock Mammoth after reaching 370 days.

  • Mammoth (Legendary): The towering Mammoths act as shields, increasing Troops Defense up to 10% at high levels for 2 hours. It needs 20 hours for cooldown.

Each of these pets offers unique skills and benefits, further enhancing your strategic options as you progress in the game.

How to Upgrade Your Pets

To level up pets, head to the “Beast Cage” and use pet food. Every 10 levels, you’ll need additional items to advance:

  • Taming Manual: Unlocks new skills or enhances existing ones. Earned through pet adventures.
  • Energizing Potion & Strengthening Serum: Boost pets at higher levels (potions at level 30, serums at level 50).

And since we’re talking about upgrades, check out my previous article debating training new troops vs. upgrading existing ones.

Pet Adventures

The main way to get free resources for pet upgrades is sending them into adventures. Each adventure consumes 10 Chief Stamina and takes 4 hours to complete, granting your random rewards.

There’s a 10% chance your pet will discover an Ally Treasure during its adventure.

These treasures can be shared with your alliance members, offering great rewards. Additionally, you can claim up to five such Ally Treasures – another reason to understand why being part of a solid, active alliance is one of my top tips for Whiteout Survival.

Refining Pets

Use wild marks to refine your pets and boost their stats:

  • Common Wild Mark: Easy to find, but provides smaller boosts.
  • Advanced Wild Mark: These are rare and can be earned through high-level events, achievements, or seasonal challenges. Keep an eye out for limited-time events that may offer these as rewards.

During refinement, the buffs your pets offer can either improve or diminish. If you’re satisfied with the current buffs, use the “Replace” button to maintain them.

If seeking better buffs, opt for “Continue Refinement,” which consumes additional Wild Marks in hopes of achieving superior enhancements. This is why it’s a good idea to start refining your pets when you have plenty of Marks on hand.

Overall, pets are a nice addition to Whiteout Survival and yet another thing to keep in mind when considering the grand scheme. So upgrade them strategically to get the most out of their abilities.
