The Grapple is a tool in Smalland: Survive the Wilds that will help you traverse the map faster and in style.
You can grapple from branches while dropping to gain momentum or ease your drop. However, it’s fairly challenging to use and you will die many times from fall damage before mastering it.
To get the Grapple, talk to Nok to unlock the recipes for the Grapple Gun and Hook, and craft them at a Loom & Spindle after collecting all the required materials.
In this Smalland guide, I will explain how to get the Grapple Gun and Hook and how to use them.
How to Get the Grapple in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

The first part of getting the Grapple is unlocking the recipes for the Grapple Gun and Hook. These can be unlocked after interacting with Nok on the Northwest side of the map.
The next step is crafting the Loom & Spindle, which requires the following materials:
- 10x Resin (Commonly found near the starting area).
- 10x Silk (Craft Flint Shears at the Stonecutter and use them to farm Spider Cocoons near the Swamp biome).
- 7x Refined Wood (Cut green stalks with a Crude Hatchet).
- 2x Fiber (Commonly found near the starting area).

At the Loom & Spindle, you’ll be able to craft both the Grapple Gun and the Hook. To craft the Grapple Gun, you’ll need the following materials:
- 10x Fiber String (Made at the Loom & Spindle and costs 2 Fibers per Fiber String).
- 10x Chitin (Dropped by Sawyer Beetles, which can be found at the beach south of the spawn).
As for the Hook, here’s what you’ll need:
- 2x Fiber String
- 1x Chitin
Each craft will yield 10x Hooks. With the Grapple Gun and Hook now crafted, let’s see how to use them.
How to Use the Grapple in Smalland: Survive the Wilds

Using the Grapple can be dangerous as even the slightest mistake can result in you dying from fall damage.
Due to that, I recommend being prepared by having some of the best armor in the game that allows you to glide and thus avoid fall damage.
To equip it, place the Grapple on your hand slot, and the Hooks at the Arrows slot.
To use the Grapple Gun, press and hold LMB (left mouse button) while aiming at any object you can grapple onto. The best example would be tree branches.
Then, release LMB and press and hold it again to grapple onto the next branch.
Keep in mind that there are faster ways to transfer, like gliding or taming a DamselFly which can fly. The Grapple is an extremely dangerous method of transportation, but it’s also unique and fun to use.
Wrapping up
To summarize this Smalland: Survive the Wilds guide, players can get the Grapple Gun and Hook in Smalland by crafting it at the Loom & Spindle after unlocking the recipe from Nok.
Then, they can use the Grapple to traverse the map by jumping from branch to branch in a unique but dangerous way.
