With the return of the Halloween Cup, you’re probably wondering which are the best teams and Pokemon to use in Pokemon Go to get the most out of this beloved event.
Like previous years, the Haloween Cup is pretty special for the Pokemon Go fanbase. It is widely considered among the best, in the vast pool of special formats that rotate through the Go Battle League.
Since last year, many new Pokemon have been introduced in the game, and despite the limitations of using only Poison-, Bug-, Ghost-, Dark-, and Fairy-type Pokemon, many players have seen a few breakout stars.
With so many different options though, there are many variants to the best team.
If you recently got into Scarlett and Violet, and the Teal Mask DLC, check out our guide on the best team for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, to go through the game with a mix of old and new.
Pokemon Go Halloween Cup Team Breakdown
Each team consists of three Pokemon, the Lead, the Pivot, and the Closer. Some of the Pokemon in your team may be Shadow Pokemon, and for some teams, there will be substitution examples.
- The Lead: Pokemon seen first in battle
- The Pivot: Switch Pokemon from bad lead/to draw out counter
- The Closer: Often the 3rd Pokemon revealed in battle
As a little refresher, Shadow Pokemon are abandoned by members of Team GO Rocket after you’ve defeated them in battle, giving you a chance to encounter and catch them.
For Shadow Pokémon, Powering Up and unlocking a second Charged Attack requires more Candy and Stardust than for regular Pokémon.
Shadow Pokémon also deal more damage with their Fast and Charged Attacks, but they take more damage when attacked.
The extra damage dealt by Shadow Pokémon is shown as a “Shadow Bonus” next to their attacks on their summary page, just like Weather Boosts.
Frustration is a Charged Attack that all Shadow Pokémon know when they’re caught. Frustration cannot be unlearned with a TM until you’ve purified the Shadow Pokémon, except during special events.
