Morale Guide in JA3 – What is Morale?

Morale guide in Jagged Alliance 3 - How morale works.

Morale is a stat that each of your mercs has individually. High morale means that the merc is happy, while low morale signals dissatisfaction.

The importance of morale is that it is tied to Action Points (AP). A happy merc will have more AP than an unhappy merc, which will allow them to cover longer distances, be more accurate when firing enemies, and apply pressure more effectively.

Thus, if you want to have an advantage over your opponents and win battles more easily, keeping your squad’s morale high is crucial. For this morale guide in Jagged Alliance 3, let’s examine next how to increase and keep your morale high.

How to Increase Morale in JA3

There are various ways to increase your morale in Jagged Alliance 3 and here are all of them:

  • Deal a lot of damage in combat – When ending a fight while dealing a lot of damage, mercs will celebrate and gain morale points.
  • Have high Leadership skill attribute – Having a merc with high Leadership in your squad will result in gaining extra morale points after various events.
  • Have Traits, Perks, and Talents that boost Morale – Examples include Optimist (Trait), Inspiring Strike (Perk), Shock and Awe (Perk), and Find My Feet (MD’s Talent).
  • Complete Plot Events – Plot events are random encounters with characters where you have to decide what to do with them. For instance, in my Jagged Alliance 3 Jackhammer decision guide, I explain that imprisoning Jackhammer increases your squad’s morale while letting him go reduces it.
  • Select Mercs for your squad that like each other – Some mercs are fond of each other, while others can’t stand being together. When selecting your squad, keep an eye out for banter between mercenaries to make sure your mercs are happy with each other.

To check your Morale in Jagged Alliance 3, enter the tactical view screen and hover over the soldier that you want to inspect. Additionally, during combat, you can see your squad’s morale by checking the symbol over their portraits on the top left corner of your screen.

Keep in mind that Morale can also decrease. Having mercs fall during combat, making the wrong choices on Plot Events, and having mercs in your squad that dislike each other can all significantly reduce your morale.

Also, there are Perks, Traits, and Talents that have negative effects and cause your mercs to start the fight with lower morale, or make their morale drop more easily.

It’s important to keep an eye on all of these often to make sure your squad has high morale before, during, and after each fight.

To sum up this morale guide for Jagged Alliance 3, managing morale is essential as it increases each merc’s AP.

To keep your morale high and your mercs happy, deal high damage, use the right mercs, complete plot events, and have morale-boosting perks, traits, and talents.
