It was recently reported that Poptropica is shutting down on December 29th, based on a Discord message posted by the game’s official account.
However, we now have confirmation that the news is fake and Poptropica is not shutting down by the end of the year. This was confirmed on X (formerly Twitter), on the official channel.
The X post reads:
“So, this is awkward. We’re still here. And will be on December 31st. But super sweet that you all love us so much that the thought of us leaving got us so much attention!
PS – we made Pop free to everyone this month!”
The initial message, which was reportedly posted on Discord, citing “recent layoffs, the reallocation of resources and other financial barriers” as the reasons behind the decision.
You can read what we know it’s a fake message below:
So, in conclusion, Poptropica is NOT shutting down. The rumors regarding the game’s closure before the end of the year were denied by the game’s development team, who promised that the game will still be around next year.
Let’s hope that it will continue to keep kids happy for a long time. I still have fond memories regarding Poptropica and I’m preparing to introduce my son to the game, especially since he’s a major Diary of a Wimpy Kid fan.
