Galaxy Idle Clicker Guide: Tips, Tricks, and Strategies

Since I always have GIC running in the background nowadays – even now as I write this guide – I decided to share the knowledge I gained to help you progress faster and get the most out of the game.

So without further ado, here are the best Galaxy Idle Clicker tips and tricks you should know, in no particular order.

Auto Move and Auto Progression are essential

If you’re playing the game for a while, you probably have these unlocked already. If you don’t, make sure you get them ASAP.

Auto Move is a level up upgrade you have to buy each time after a Time Travel (reset). You get it when you reach level 5, so it’s very easy, especially after your first run.

Auto Progression takes, most likely, two Time Travels to have the resources for. But get it ASAP, because it will automatically move you to the next stage, so you can simply let the game run in the background and it will get you to the highest possible stage for your current stats.

Extra TIP: Once you get stuck to a boss battle, I recommend disabling the Auto Progression feature (you can find it in the middle of the top bar on the playing screen, as seen below):

If you disable it, you will no longer waste time trying to defeat the boss, so you will get even more resources.

What to upgrade first

I always focus on increasing the Junk Earned Boosts (both the Junk and Plasma upgrades) ASAP. My second focus is boosting the Plasma earned.

These are essential resources that will help you get even more upgrades in the long run, so the sooner you will boost them, the more you will get in return.

Upgrading your Attack and Health is not even mandatory early on, after your first couple of Time Travels. Only get them when you see your ship starting to struggle against enemy ships.

You want to be as close to one shot, one kill as possible. If you waste too much time in an area, you basically lose resources – just go back one stage, gather resources, boost your Attack and Health and move on.

Attack vs. Health

Usually, your HP will get to a satisfactory level even without matching the HP Increase or Boost HP Increase levels with the Attack-related ones.

So, once your ship’s HP is in a good place, focus on upgrading the Attack instead. Dealing more damage will help you destroy enemies faster and get more resources faster in turn.

Micromanage the Autobuy feature

I don’t recommend keeping the Autobuy option turned on after a Time Travel. You want to do it yourself, as you will do it faster, and focus on the recommended upgrades first.

But when you leave the computer (or let the game run in the background), Autobuy is great at boosting your stats and making sure you’re not piling up on resources like a hoarder.

You can also control what type of upgrades it buys (simply click the icon of an upgrade to select or unselect it): once you are in a satisfactory level with most of them, I usually let it buy Attack upgrades only, since these are what give you the biggest boost.

Eventually, I will get back and turn it off, let some resources pile up again and buy other upgrades to even things out.

You have to play the Meteorite game

Meteorite game upgrades

It seems like a waste of time (to me, at least), but the Meteorite game should be played as often as possible. You will eventually unlock a boost that lets you play it automatically but with fewer boosts… but you do have to play it.

The main advantages you can get from it, early on, are the Special Meteorite Upgrades. These will give you various buffs in the main play area, every 15 minutes or so.

After unlocking these, you should focus on the Meteorite game upgrades themselves, getting a Combo Shield (or more if you need them – I found that 1 is enough at least early on), but especially the Double Meteorite Gains and Increase Meteorite chance for the rarer ones which give you more points.

At least in the early stages of the game, I found the Turrets useless – not only that they shoot rarely, but often times they aim at satellites, which should not be destroyed. So ignore them, at least for now.

When to Time Travel?

Galaxy Idle Clicker is a very slow game. It has a ton of content, but expect it to be very slow, with progress in between Time Travels relatively low. Other games let you move a lot further after a reset, but that’s not the case here.

Still, you will progress a lot faster if you find the right balance between waiting too much or rushing things over too much when it comes to Time Travel.

Your goal, apart from the initial one of getting the Auto Progressions, is to get to 2,750 Light Years to unlock the first Black Hole. If you play the game regularly, you will be able to do this within your first 48 hours after starting (usually a lot sooner).

Except for the times you’re asleep, I recommend Time Traveling every 2-3 hours. This gives you enough extra boosts to make it worth it, without you waiting too long and getting little in return for the extra time you spend playing.

This is the ideal amount of time, as you can see from my first few time travels. 3 hours is the sweet spot for maximum gains:

Also, before you go to sleep (or away for longer amounts of time), make sure that you are fully upgraded and playing at your max Area for that run and keep Autobuy on to maximize your gains and progress.

Grab those freebies!

You can get various rewards in Galaxy Idle Clicker, from various sources. Many of them will come from completing quests or achievements. The Quests are visible in the main play area – and whenever you complete one, a “Claim” button will become active next to them.

But you also have a set of redeemable codes, one of which can be redeemed every 24 hours for extra antimatter and potions. You can check out all the GIC codes here, where I update the article constantly.

What to spend antimatter on

Since Antimatter is a premium currency, you should make sure that you don’t waste it. This means that you should NEVER purchase Antimatter Potions or Antimatter Time Skips.

I recommend focusing on the Antimatter Multipliers upgrades. These are expensive, but they are worth it since they give you permanent boosts to various areas. Here is how I would spend Antimatter in the game:

  • From the Quality of Life Upgrades, get the Auto Destroy Main Game Special Meteorite (to get a random boost every 15 minutes)
  • Hoard Antimatter until you can get the Damage increase boost (5,000 Antimatter needed)
  • Either hoard some more to get the Junk increase boost, or wait longer to get the Automatically Shoot Clicker Shots (which basically increases your damage a lot)

Keep an eye on your inventory!

ship inventory

You collect various items in your inventory, which give you increasingly better boosts to various stats (like Plasma and Junk gathering).

Since the inventory slots are limited, you should check them regularly to make sure you always equip collected items and make room for collecting new ones.

I did use antimatter to buy 2 extra slots… but at least for now, I think that’s enough. No need to waste antimatter on that when there are better upgrades to buy eventually.

Black Hole Prestige Mechanics

The Black Hole Prestige is basically a mega-reset that wipes out most of the things you have collected, including any Light Years you have left over. Just a few things will carry over when you travel through a Black Hole in Galaxy Idle Clicker

  • Any unlocked Black Hole passive rewards
  • Opened tabs: Minerals, Meteorites, Mechs & Army
  • Antimatter upgrades (and unspent Antimatter)
  • Achievements
  • Purchased Light Year Upgrades (but any unspent Light Years will be lost!)

However, despite all these, the rewards you get are usually amazing – both Passive rewards that stack up with each new Black Hole prestige, as well as upgrades you can buy (which are also OP).

For example, after your first Black Hole travel, you will get one Passive in the game, but also the capability to unlock FreeJunk, which lets you keep all the junk you have collected. This really changes the game, making upgrade buying a lot easier, so progress a lot faster.

My recommendation in regards to Black Hole travels is to do it as soon as you have purchased all the Light Year upgrades for the current tier you are at.

If all of these sound a bit too difficult, relax with a different type of game like Hookah Haze. Check out my guide to all Hookah Haze endings, or the Hookah Haze flavor combinations to know what to expect.

Use Your Potions!

Finally, in your Antimatter tab, you will see various potions collected through completing quests, achievements or redeeming codes.

I recommend buying these when you need a bit of a boost later on in the game, or soon after starting to progress a bit faster.

Use the smaller ones at first, keeping the ones like 3 days worth of resources for when you really need to push hard to get to a new stage for extra bonuses.
