Build a Zoo on Roblox is one of the most popular experiences on the platform right now, and for all the right reasons. A cool tycoon mash-up where you collect animals, expand your park, and flex rare pets or fish for extra gold, the game requires some planning and strategy if you want to thrive.
And thrive you will, if you check out my strategy guide below, including how to make more money, what to buy first, early mistakes to avoid, and more. Let’s jump right in!
Your First Animals and Gold
When you spawn in, head straight to the conveyor belt at the back of your zoo. Buy a $100 egg, drop it at the front, and wait for it to hatch. Congrats, that’s your first animal!
Keep repeating the loop until you run out of space – this way, you have a basic setup ready, and you’re producing money already. No need, until now, to even consider anything else, like raiding other players.
You need to earn gold, and that is done by having more animals on display. And while you want those to be rare and awesome, you have to start somewhere. The idea is that the more you hatch, the faster the income ticks up. But you’ll eventually hit a wall. And this is when other mechanics come into play.
If you want a boost early on (or at whatever stage you might be at), check out our previous article sharing updated & working Build a Zoo codes.
PRO TIP: Stay AFK instead of logging out. It doesn’t really matter at what stage you are in the game. You’ll simply earn way more cash by leaving your game running than by closing it.
PvP, Raids & Stealing
Now, as I was speaking about hitting a wall earlier… There are multiple ways to deal with that and keep going. I will start with the fun one – raiding.
The game is not just about passive gold farming. Players can raid each other’s zoos, and it’s possible to steal animals. So, you should start exploring sooner rather than later, and find poorly guarded zoos from other players, ideally with great animals on display.
At the same time, this makes it important to think about YOUR zoo’s layout and security, especially for rare and high-value animals.
To protect yourself from losing progress, you’ll need to be strategic and avoid leaving your most expensive pets exposed. The game also offers options like auto-collecting coins, some of which are gated behind Robux, to reduce vulnerability and speed up earnings.
Teleporting is another helpful feature, letting players instantly move between their zoo, the shop, and the merchant.

Unlocking More Space
Hitting the wall mentioned earlier can also be solved by something you should do anyway sooner rather than later – running out of room. You will have to buy extra tiles! Here’s how to do it:
- Equip the hammer tool by pressing 1 (or selecting it from your tray).
- Walk to the tile you want to unlock and press E.
The initial costs will be low, but scaling is hard in Build a Zoo: if you only pay $500 for the first unlock, tiles in the back will end up costing up to $10,000,000 each!
Once you buy them all, expansion stops. If you want fresh animals after that, you’ll need to sell some of the old ones, ideally replacing them with better, rarer ones.
Getting Big Animals
Everyone wants big animals, and you will want them too. These massive pets not only give you tons of bragging rights but also plenty of gold. You can place these on the special platforms at the corners of your zoo.
To unlock all three, you need to pay $30,000 gold for the first one, $50,000 for the fish platform (but you need the Fish Platform first), and the final one costs 299 Robux.
Once you unlock a platform, the Food Shop opens up. A new “Food” button appears at the top of your screen for quick travel. Buy food, feed your pets, and watch them max out in size.
Feeding also unlocks new big animals in order from your album. Just keep buying the different food items and feed away.
Good to know: bigger animals only spawn if you’ve got bigger plots unlocked. No extra tiles = no huge pets, no matter how rare the egg is.

Events & Seasonal Content

Build a Zoo constantly introduces limited-time events that come with their own mechanics, quests, and unique eggs.
A recent example is the Snowy Day Event, launched in September 2025. This event adds snow weather effects that can temporarily apply a snow mutation to eggs that hatch during the period.
Players can take part in Snow Tasks, which refresh roughly every 15 minutes and reward Snow Points upon completion. These points can then be used in the Snow Shop to buy rare eggs, potions, fruits, and Lucky Tickets.
The best value here comes from investing in Snow Eggs, since they provide some of the strongest pets available.
Notable event-exclusive eggs include the Snow Bunny Egg, Dark Goaty Egg, Rhino Rock Egg, Saber Cub Egg, and General Kong Egg.
The smart play is to grab these event eggs as soon as possible, since they may be rare or even fully exclusive. It’s also worth keeping an eye out for future events, as the developers tend to rotate themes and rewards on a regular basis.
Unlocking the Fishing Point
Update 21 added the fishing system, and getting it is required for having access to more pets in the game, and also for unlocking the Big Fish spot in your zoo.
In order to unlock the first fishing point, you need $5,000 gold – you will find the spot near the conveyor belt. When you do, you’ll get a basic rod.
Talk to the capybara near the hut to buy bait, then head to the river. Cast with a click, and wait a little for an egg to bite. A bar will appear at the top of your screen, and all you have to do is spam-click until it hits 100%, then the egg is yours.
Drop the egg into a pond, wait for the timer, and it hatches. If you want multiple fish on display, you’ll need to unlock more ponds. Warning: ponds are more expensive than zoo tiles, so don’t blow your gold here too early. Find the right balance between unlocking new regular animal spots and fish spots.

Better Eggs = Better Animals
Build a Zoo has two egg types: pet eggs from the conveyor, and fish eggs from fishing. Both have upgrade paths and the golden rule of thumb is that the better the eggs, the better animals you will get.
Pet Eggs
Go to the yellow button in the left corner of your zoo to open the conveyor upgrade menu. Upgrades run from Common → Celestial, with higher tiers spawning better eggs. The Epic conveyor is your main target, but it costs $1,500,000 in total.
Fish Eggs
Here, things work a bit differently, as most of the deals will be done through the capybara shop where you can get bait, but also from the shop where you need better rods.
I recommend getting the Gold Rod if you can pay the Robux (if not, the Uncommon Rod remains the best choice), and use the fish bait to keep the fish coming.
Conveyor Tiers & Rarity System
The conveyor directly determines the rarity of eggs that spawn and also provides passive gold buffs.
The progression moves through tiers starting at Common, then Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Mythical, Divine, and finally Prismatic.
Upgrading the conveyor increases the chances of spawning high-rarity eggs, improves base stats for pets and fish, boosts gold per second, and even raises mutation probability. Therefore, this should be one of the main things to focus on, especially since the Conveyor belt itself can’t be stolen by other players.
As mentioned above, hitting the Epic rarity is an important milestone you must hit.
Mutations and Why They Matter
Mutated pets and fish look different and can earn up to 12x more gold than their base forms. Mutated eggs come from both pets and fish, though they’re expensive. Big pets and fish can also mutate if you feed them certain food items.
However, Skip mutated eggs early on in the game, as you simply can’t handle them. They’re too expensive and don’t always pay off. Once you’re stacked, go for Diamond mutated eggs. Gold eggs are solid too, especially before late game.
I have a full guide for mutations and Big Pets in the game, make sure to check it out as well!
