How to Fish: How to Summon & Beat the Mutated Bowhead Whale (Final Boss)

The final boss in How to Fish – the Mutated Bowhead Whale – is exactly what you’d expect after dealing with the previous bosses: an absolute test of your skill and patience, as well as ammunition reserves.

I am here to make it easier for you to defeat this final boss, which is actually a two-target massive fight (first, the regular whale, then the mutated version).

So, without further ado, let’s see how to beat the Mutated Bowhead Whale in How to Fish!

How to Summon the Bowhead Whale

You need to interact with the scientist on Volcano Island, who wants you to give him five fish. In return, he gives you a Fish Bucket – this item is used to summon the boss.

But before you do that, it’s time to prepare. If you haven’t gone through it already, let me tell you that it’s a very difficult battle, one that will make the challenging Pufferfish Boss Fight in How to Fish look like a breeze.

Dealing with the Bowhead Whale First

In order to defeat the boss, you need to prepare for the battle. Since this is the final boss, you should put all your money into maxing out your best weapon if you haven’t done so already.

I found that the Assault Rifle is, unsurprisingly, the best weapon for the job, so make sure it has the best upgrades and attachments you can get. Also, make sure that you have plenty of fish in your inventory for healing purposes.

Next, cast your line with the Fish Bucket and you will summon the regular Bowhead Whale.

While the fight itself is not extremely complicated, it’s difficult mainly because of the massive health pool of the whale.

In order to defeat it, as it goes with all bosses in the game, you have to keep moving. Do not stand in its direct path and avoid standing still to fire continuously – this results in you getting flattened instantly.

So watch out for its main attack (the jumping slam) – whenever you see that begins, stop shooting and start running.

IMPORTANT: After defeating the regular whale, keep it in your inventory, as you need it to trigger the final boss.

Summoning and Defeating the Mutated Bowhead Whale

It’s time to put the defeated whale to work! Head over to the limit of the wooden path that leads to the volcano’s crater and drop the whale into the lava. This spawns the final boss in How to Fish.

Unlike the regular whale, the mutated version has three main attacks: ground charges across the battlefield, massive aerial body slams, and a devastating mechanic that scatters lava everywhere.

However, the strategy doesn’t change much. Your main priority remains that of being constantly on the move to evade getting damage. That’s extremely important when the whale is actively charging – that’s the time to run, not shoot!

Deal your damage, start moving again to avoid a new attack, rinse and repeat. And prepare for the whale to become more and more aggressive as its health bar drops.

And keep an eye on the lava: fish will regularly spawn from it, helping you keep your health up. Just don’t ignore the fish – you NEED them, but make sure you actually get them when your health is low, otherwise you’ll just waste them.

Wrapping Up

Defeating the final boss is not a walk in the park, but the tips above tell you everything you need to be prepared and get it done properly. Keep running, dodge the landing zones, and chip away at the health bar until the fight is won.

Pick up your prize and take that fin to the scientist to trigger the ending and officially complete your game. You survived the grind, beat the volcano, and proved you are the ultimate fisher!
