Ditto is a great help for Pokemon breeding purposes in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. Having a Ditto in your Pokedex can help you get your preferred breeding outcomes. But, finding Ditto can be quite the task, too!
Ditto is a Transform Pokémon, meaning it can take the shape and size of almost any other Pokémon in the game. That’s what makes them so difficult to spot and catch.
But, there’s always a solution! In this article, I’ll discuss where you can find Ditto in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, as well as share a few tips on catching this cute Pokémon!
Where to Find Ditto in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Ditto can be found and caught near the cities, Porto Marinada and Medali.
Porto Marinada falls under the West Province (Area Two) of Paldea.
Look for the Porto Marinada Lighthouse, situated towards the northern parts of the town. Track the entire pathway on the edge of the hills and on top of the hills to encounter various types of Pokemon.
Porto Marinada also has a huge marketplace consisting of several shops for purchasing sandwich ingredients, such as the Artisan Bakery, where you’ll find almost all the ingredients, starting from peanut butter and jam, to cream cheese and ham.
As for the location near Medali, there’s a small pathway near the Pokemon Center (West), which links the city to the Gimmighoul Chests. Medali falls under the West Province (Area Three) in Paldea.
In both of these pathways, you may encounter several Ditto disguised as other creatures. This is what makes catching Ditto more difficult than catching a Growlithe, for example.
Up until now, the locations mentioned above have proven to be the optimal place to find Ditto.
So, if Ditto is always in disguise, how do you recognize the Pokémon?
How to identify Ditto in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
There’s almost a zero chance that you’ll spot a Ditto in its true form.
It’s almost always in the form of another Pokemon. But, there are several ways to identify a Ditto.
Observing the behavior of the Pokémon
As you wander around looking for this pink Pokemon, be mindful of the actions and attitude of all the other Pokemon you come across.
If you notice that those Pokemon aren’t acting like their natural self, then it must be a Ditto! For example, if you notice a Pokemon, which is usually ferocious in nature, not showing any sort of fierceness, it most definitely is a Ditto.
In case you can’t tell apart the attitudinal changes, you’ll need to interact with the Pokemon in order to find out. Now, there are two days to do it.
Battling with the Pokémon
One way of doing it is interacting with the wild Pokemon and initiating a battle with it. If it’s actually a Ditto, the Pokemon will transform into its true self right when the battle starts. It may take other forms later on as the battle progresses.
Starting a battle with each and every Pokemon you come across can be a time-consuming process, though!
Using the “ZL” button of Nintendo Switch
A quicker method to identify a Ditto is by adjusting your right stick to focus on the suspected Pokémon while pressing down on the “ZL” button of your Nintendo Switch.
If the Pokemon is already in your Pokedex, its name will show up. However, if you notice “???” on the Pokemon, that definitely means that it’s a Ditto. Do keep in mind that if that Pokemon isn’t in your Pokedex, you’ll see the “???” text too.
You can choose whichever method you prefer and you should eventually encounter Ditto.
Now that you know how you can encounter a Ditto, how do you catch the Pokemon?
How to catch Ditto in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet?
Catching Ditto can be very frustrating as these creature keep on fleeing every single time and you may end up wasting 50 Pokeballs before even realizing it!
There are several tips given by players who have managed to catch the Pokemon quickly, and you can implement these to boost your luck.
The most effective tip so far has been to transform Ditto into a Water Type. If you put up one of your Water type Pokemon against Ditto, it’ll transform itself into your Pokemon during the battle.
Reduce the health bar of Ditto to a minimum; make sure it has reached at least the “Orange” level, if not “Red”.
With the health bar reduced to a minimum, throw a Net Ball and that should catch Ditto permanently, without it fleeing again.
While this method is quite effective, you may still need to use multiple Net Balls in order to catch Ditto.
If you aren’t able to pursue this particular method, make sure that you lower Ditto’s HP by a lot before using your PokeBall.
You’ll need to have a large stack of different balls too, such as the Pokeball, the Ultra Ball, and the Great Ball. Beast balls or Dusk balls won’t be much of a help, though.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any peanut butter sandwiches, ham sandwiches, or any shiny sandwiches that will help your chances in the case of Ditto.
A bit of luck should help you catch the Ditto in your first few tries. However, it has taken more than 50 balls for some players, too! So, just keep your patience and go for it!
