WayForward, the developers behind unique, charming games like the Shantae series take us into the universe of The Mummy. Based on the recent reboot of The Mummy film series, The Mummy Demastered is a 2D action-packed Metroidvania-styled adventure.
Players play as an agent that belongs to an elite monster-hunting organization, Prodigium. Your target is Princess Ahmanet who is summoning supernatural hordes through her ancient magic. HQ has lost contact with the Prodigium units already at the site, so now it’s up to you to stop Princess Ahmanet and find out what happened to the landing team.
You can tell right off the bat in the trailer that The Mummy Demastered contains the crisp, detailed sprites that we all know and love from WayForward. Run, gun, jump, and platform your way through ancient tombs, mysterious forests, deep tunnels, and the streets of London. Ahmanet’s forces lie in wait for you at every corner, so be alert!
If you’re familiar with other games from WayForward, you might remember their game based on the Aliens franchise Aliens Infestation. This game is shaping up to be very similar to Aliens Infestation, so you’ll be right at home if you’ve played it. For those unfamiliar, it was another platformer game with a focus on exploration and shooting. If you took Contra and Metroid and mashed them into one, you’d end up with Aliens Infestation and The Mummy Demastered.
The movie didn’t perform particularly well at the box office, but WayForward’s take on it looks really awesome. Today the game has officially been confirmed for an October 24 release for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PC/Steam, and Nintendo Switch. Soon you’ll be able to face the legion of Ahmanet’s undead forces!
