Sega Accidentally Releases Full Version of Yakuza 6

Yakuza6-8

We haven’t seen a mess up of this stature in a while, and honestly this is hilariously silly, though we don’t mean to make fun of our good friends at Sega!

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, the latest entry in Sega’s open world action adventure series received rather a alarming surprise today. Earlier, Sega had released a “demo” for the game on the PlayStation Network for players to download and try. The demo’s size was abnormally large – over 36GB – which intrigued certain gamers.

Fans of the series dug into the demo as expected, but some were confused as to just how long the demo was supposed to be. Players were able to play past the prologue section and even through the first chapter, with no end in sight. So a few hours later comes a tweet from the official Sega account stating that the demo that many players had already downloaded was actually the full version of the game. With the demo’s size, that’s no surprise!

Sega was quick to pull the demo from the PlayStation Store. If you were one of the eager gamers that grabbed the demo as soon as it went up today, then congratulations – you probably have the full game on your PS4! But of course, if you’re constantly connected to the internet like many are, the demo will probably get a patch that fixes everything up.

Hopefully Sega fixes this critical error and puts up a proper demo, because the Yakuza games are pretty awesome. It’s been a long time coming too, as Yakuza 6: The Song of Life was originally released in Japan back in 2016, and it’s just now getting localized. We think it’s worth the wait though, as Yakuza 6 is shaping up to be one of the best entries in the series.

Yakuza 6: The Song of Life will be released April 17, 2018.

JRPG Classic Chrono Trigger Releases on PC Today

Chrono Trigger

“Good morning, Crono!”

Those were the first words you heard when you woke up at the beginning of Chrono Trigger, and unbeknownst to us at the time, we were about to go on one of the most unforgettable RPG journeys of all time. Chrono Trigger, the legendary JRPG classic originally released for the Super Nintendo, is now on PC for the very first time. You can check out the Steam page here.

Chrono Trigger was released during Square’s golden era of the early 90’s, when they were releasing big hits like Secret of Mana and Final Fantasy VI. Players assumed the role as the titular Crono, your everyday, ordinary teenage boy. Upon a chance encounter with a girl at the local festival, a bizarre string of events sees him leaping back in time to what begins the story to save the world. It sounds like a typical RPG story, but Chrono Trigger played with the idea of thoughtful time travel and how it could affect the game’s world.

Boasting a fun and inventful story, lovable characters, a phenomenal soundtrack, and a neat combat system to boot, Chrono Trigger quickly became one of the most beloved RPGs of all time. And rightfully so – this game was the brainchild of legendary designers including Hironobu Sakaguchi, creator of the Final Fantasy series, Yuji Horii, creator of the Dragon Quest series, and Akira Toriyama, a popular manga artist most known for his work on the Dragon Ball series.

If you never got to experience the original game or the re-release on the Nintendo DS, now’s your chance to play the PC version. However, do be warned, as the Steam version seems to be based on the mobile port of the game. While the mobile version had the new additions from the DS version, the game’s graphics got squished down by an odd scale, and thus the Steam version looks somewhat strange. If this does not bother you, then prepare for an amazing RPG adventure!

League of Legend’s Loot Boxes Now Have Transparent Drop Rates

Hextech_Crafting

For better or worse, 2017 was known as the year of the lootbox. After the fiasco that was the Star Wars Battlefront II lootbox situation, many games have started to rethink their ways on using the now standard lootbox formula.

One such company is none other than MOBA giant Riot Games and their number one PC hit, League of Legends. In the game, players can earn “Hextech Chests,” lootboxes that contain a variety of goodies. If you play your champion particularly well, you may be rewarded with a chest at the end of the match. Before you can open it, you’ll also need to earn a key which drop more frequently than the chests. Playing with friends increases the drop rate for keys, giving players an incentive to pair up with buddies.

Of course, there’s always the option of buying Hextech Chests directly from the store using real money. The chests themselves are 125 Riot Points, roughly $1 USD. It’s 195 RP for a chest and key, which is $1.50. Today, Riot has published a full drop rates table of all the items you can find inside these chests. This is part of their plan to become more transparent so that players know what they’re potentially getting.

  • Skin Shard: 50%
  • Champion Shard: 25%
  • Emote Permanent: 10%
  • Ward Skin Shard + 150 Orange Essence: 11.5%
  • Summoner Icon Shard + 150 Orange Essence: 3.5%
  • Gemstone: 3.6%
  • Bonus Chest + Key: 10%

What do you think of this move? Personally, we feel that this should be the standard whenever a game uses lootboxes. It’s time to put an end to the random gambling aspect of these games. Granted, the nature of lootbox rolling is essentially still gambling, but at least this gives players a heads up on what to expect.

Even better is that Riot implemented some finer details and tricks to ensure that these lootboxes stay in the players’ favor. By that we mean stuff like their “Bad Luck Protection,” which makes it so that you can’t open three chests in a row without getting at least one skin shard.

You can read the full report here on the Riot Games website.

Search for Balloons in Luigi’s Balloon World, a Free Update for Super Mario Odyssey

Luigi’s Balloon World

Welcome back to the greatest Odyssey ever! Super Mario Odyssey received a free update today that adds a new mini-game: Luigi’s Balloon World! That’s right – Mario’s plucky brother finally gets a turn in the spotlight!

The update patch has already gone live, so all you need to do is simply launch Odyssey to automatically update it. However, to play with Luigi, you’ll need to have finished the main story first, so keep that in mind, you eager green-cap wearing fans!

Luigi’s Balloon World is a balloon version of hide’n’seek. In “Hide It” mode, you get 30 seconds to hide a balloon somewhere in the world you initiated the mini-game. In “Find It” mode, you’ll do the opposite and try to find balloons hidden by other online players in 30 seconds. The trick to this is knowing the layout of the world you’re in like the back of your hand!

Finding other players’ balloons and hiding yours well will allow you rank up and climb the leaderboard, which showers you in coins. This is a good thing – this update also adds three new outfits for Mario to purchase, including a Super Mario Sunshine themed one! You’ll need 14,000 coins to get all the new outfits, so get to balloon hunting!

As a smaller bonus, two new filters have been added to the game’s Snapshot Mode. The new coin filter is sporting Luigi’s mug on it, and the neon filter does exactly what it sounds like it would do: turn everything into a colorful laser show!

Do note though that there seems to be some eShop congestion happening at the moment, so if you’re unable to download the update due to a maintenance message, just try again in a couple of minutes and you should be good to go. Luigi’s Balloon World awaits you!

Warcraft III Receives Balance Updates and New PTR

Warcraft 3

Holy moly it’s a blast from the past! Blizzard is back again with surprising support for 15 year-old games, this time Warcraft III, their pride and joy RTS.

Over a week ago, it was announced that Blizzard had invited several popular Warcraft III community players to a private event. Following an announcement made today, we now know that event is the first ever Warcraft III Invitational!

On February 27 and 28, the players will be gathering at Blizzard headquarters to play free-for-all, 4v4, and custom game competitions. To go along with this, the players will be playing on the all-new PTR version of the game!

Get excited because the PTR version seems to be shaping up to a full “remastered” version of the game. The new PTR version features official widescreen support, upscaling the game’s interface. Even bigger (literally!) is that game lobbies now support up to 24 players, with new team colors to boot. If you were a fan of Warcraft III‘s wacky custom games back in the day, this is the best news to come out of this!

For the more technical side of things, many heroes and maps have been rebalanced. You can read the full balance notes right here. On top of that, the World Editor – the tool used for making custom maps – has received various upgrades as well. Maps can now be much bigger than they were before, and you can add a lot more objects and characters.

So what does this all mean? Well, since we just got a remastered version of the original Starcraft, all of these changes, including the balance and World Editor changes can only mean one thing: an official Warcraft III Remaster is in the works! We’re super excited because we’re big fans of the original game way back during its original release in 2003, and we can’t wait to play those awesome custom games with a ton of players.

Of course, this isn’t set in stone but really, what else could this all be for? Even if there isn’t a big remastered version planned, we can still revel in the fact that Warcraft III has been updated for play on modern computers and we’re more than happy enough with that.
