A Friend Lost

Well, I’m a bit bummed out today. Why you ask? We had to put one of our cats, Rascal, down today. She was diagnosed with severe kidney failure and it started to effect her brain. By the time we got her to the vet today it was too late for her.

It was a bit odd how it all happened. Our cats usually just go about their own thing…as all cats do I imagine. I started to go “uh-ohhh” last night when our 2 year old daughter pretty much tackled Rascal and she didn’t budge. When I looked at her more closely, her head was waving back and forth as if she couldn’t focus on anything or couldn’t keep her balance. I went to bed last night with her lying down near the back door, only to find her there again this morning and this afternoon when I took her to the vet. I think she moved a total of 10 feet in the last 36 hours or so. Part of this probably could have been prevented by bringing her to the vet more often, but it came so under the radar that might just be wishful thinking.

We got Rascal when I was still in University. This kitten was extremely affectionate to the point of almost being a dog. She was there when we got our first apartment, our first house, our first dog, and our first child…lots of firsts.

…sad to see her go.

Cheers Rascal.

D out.
