OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!
Pre-purchase beta for DCS A-10 has begun. For those that are interested, go here. Again, everything that you needed to know about this brilliant sim is right here. Not sure how much time I will have to start playing this, but I think I’ll need to dig into this tonight and at least start working on starting up this baby. Oh…soooo excited.
Calm Darren: “Calm down Darren…it’s a beta…there will be bugs. These guys do real betas, not marketing ones.”
Eager Darren: “I know…I know…it’s just that the A-10 is sooo shiny.”
Calm Darren: “Shhhh…I know. Here…have a cookie.”
Eager Darren: “*sniffle*…OK”. /nomnomnom
In other news, DCUO was pushed back to 2011:
In a move that almost certainly had nothing to do with the impending MMO doom that is Cataclysm, Sony Online Entertainment has just announced that its DC Universe Online superhero MMORPG has been delayed until 2011. Originally scheduled for a November 2010 release on both the PC and Playstation 3 platforms, the game will now force players to be a bit patient before they traipse around virtual recreations of Metropolis and Gotham City.
Nothing to do with the WoW release…indeed.
Here’s what I think is going on. DCUO is probably “good enough” to release this year. I’m sure it’s fun game and everything is in place to make a pretty good impression in the MMO-verse. That being said, with WoW coming out in December, this gives SOE the excuse…the push even…to hold back and make it more than “good enough”. If they did release in November, they would be facing a migration of players from their game to WoW come December…which could lead to early cancellations and a revenue bleed. They may get those players back, but it would be a long time (6-8 months) before they see a recovery. So…good idea just to bypass WoW altogether and reforcast the release such that they are the ones getting the migrating players from WoW after Cataclysm has lost its shine. Good strategic business thinking….if that is indeed what is going on.
It’s going to be an interesting 2011
