Some more of GDC
Karen has been doing a stand up job going to many of the talks for GDC. If you want to read about some of the sessions being done, head over there. She’s already got three articles up there.
One other game I want to tell you all about is a game called AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! I remember seeing this game on Steam an passed it over for some reason…despite the great title. This game was being displayed in the Indie Game section of the GDC floor. I had a chance to talk to one of the developers and I also got to play the game as well. I’m impressed. Here are the main features according to Steam:
80 levels take you through cities of floating billboards and buildings, and fly you inches away from the side of a mountain.
Unique game mechanics allow you to create your own stunts to score.
Give your fans the thumbs-up for points, or annoy protesters with rude gestures.
Snag a can of spray paint and tag government buildings for an extra challenge.
Special meditation mode helps you relax, with free anti-meditation mode to help you stop relaxing.
Essentially, it’s a game about base jumping while trying to do crazy things on the way down (…heh…like base jumping isn’t crazy to begin with…). It was clear that the developers loved the game they built and I will probably be purchasing it when I get home. Love those indie developers.
If you ever go to GDC, I highly recommend the indie games section of the floor. I think I’ve said it before…indie gaming is where all the fun stuff seems to be happening. They’re taking the risks and the results are really showing well on the floor.
More tomorrow.
D out.
