GDC So far…
In the middle of the economic downturn, people from the industry had to make a decision: should we go to GDC? To some, the answer was a clear “no”. GDC has gotten quite small…at least since I started going 2 or 3 years ago. I’m not sure if this trend will continue next year, but it is noticeable. Regardless, there are still some very cool things to see.
First up is R.U.S.E. This is a gorgeous RTS game whose main gameplay element is to fool the other player. Hiding your troops…finding theirs…all very interesting. I’m not too sure how much of a wargame it really is, so I’m hoping that there is plenty of depth to the game. I’ll try to get some playtime in today and give some more detailed impressions later on.
Next thing I want to talk about is the Sony Move (…I think that’s the name…). It’s only a proof of concept, but if they were to sell it now, it would essentially shove the Wii out as a leader in interactive gaming. Sony’s solution is incredible. It’s extremely sensitive to every movement of your hand and the feel of it all is just spot on. The potential for games like RPGs, shooters and even MMOs is limitless. The Wii was a great start to a new way for gamers to interface to the games they love…Move takes the next step by making the experience to actually making this interface even more accurate.
If you want to see my ugly mug, tune into Gamebreakr again at 5:30PST today and I’ll be there…possibly with a better brand of beer
D out
