Ubisoft DRM hacked…

…and it took only 24 hours:

Ubisoft’s master plan has collapsed in under 24-hours, as infamous cracker group Skid-Row has tackled the new DRM and rendered it useless, meaning the only people now suffering with this ridiculous DRM are legitimate owners.

Nice…

Well that was quick. I’m against pirating games as someone has to pay to keep them coming but i hate DRM. I’ll buy the game now and crack it and everyone wins.

Unfortunately, Ubisoft has learned nothing from the mistakes of Spore (the most pirated game in history). DRM is not the answer, as people are more likely to pirate if they have to jump through hoops to play legitimately. So, in this particular case, props to Skid-Row for sticking it to the idiots. Hopefully Ubisoft actually learns something this time.

Shocking. DRM yet again not stopping piracy and only inconveniencing the legit customer. In fact, draconian DRM has only done one thing as history has shown, lead to more piracy. Good job Ubisoft. Can’t wait for Assassin’s Creed 2 on the PC. It might just become the most pirated game on all time. Give EA and Spore a run for their money Ubisoft.

I’m with Jeremy, did Spore not teach anything? Guess not. I wouldn’t buy their games over this issue but I do feel empathy for people who enjoy their games but will be hampered by the DRM schema, such as the service men and women I’ve read about.

I am not sure if its amusing or sad that in the effort to launch draconic DRM Electronic Arts made Spore the most pirated game of all time. Being a veteran, and having read the Arstechnica article on Ubisoft’s DRM I feel like UBI Soft kicked active military right in the groin. I would have enjoyed their products but not until the DRM comes off and the apology goes on.

@Frogster – I’m sure anytime EA or Ubisoft comes out with a big deal DRM like this, they’re just painting a huge bullseye on themselves for hackers. Like that idiot advertising the identity protection service you put his name and SSN on a billboard.

I agree with the opinion that DRM usually just “hurt” the non-pirates. At least three times I’ve been forces, yes forced, to download a “no CD/DVD crack” in order to get the game I bought running. In that regard this DRM is better for me, as internet connectivity is not a problem. Anf if i get the game and must play when I have no Internet I can always use the crack I will get the same instance I buy the game.

Hello Darren,

I’m reading that the Authentication server has gone down. Assassin’s Creed 2 players can’t play the game. I’m not sure about the wisdom of introducing people to the world of Assassin’s and then lose the authentication server.

Did this affect Silent Hunter 5?
