Fallen Earth continues to impress

I’m sitting here at home afflicted with some kind of tummy thing and I figure I might as well do something constructive, so…let’s talk about Fallen Earth a bit more.

The team over at Fallen Earth continues to impress me with the leaps and bounds they are making with regards to the performance of the game. Although performance as of patch 1.0.9 has tripled on my current machine (…new machine is not in yet…), the “in town” experience has brought my frame rates down to its knees. I’m a bit more tolerant of that because it seems to be something that dogs most multiplayer games. The last patch, 1.0.11 seemed to have solved that for me to…or at least made it completely playable in town. I’m starting to wonder if these guys sleep at all ;)

Looks like the designers are learning and implementing some incredible solutions on the performance side and I would love to know what they are doing. Heh…it’s probably some really simple stuff, but from a player’s perspective it makes the experience a hell of a lot more enjoyable.

I’m finding myself playing this game a lot and wanting to log in every night. Crafting, for me, is a huge hit and I find my in game goals being completely centered around what I’m going to make next for my character. Crafting complements everything else in the game and you can tell these guys have thought it through very carefully. The whole game seems to be about building and rebuilding….from your character to the world around you. I’m even starting to like the combat system…but that really took some time to get use to.

Again…if you haven’t picked this up yet, please do so. I’m having a really good time with it.

D out.
