Had another long beta session last night, but this time on the wife’s kick-ass computer. Performance is much better on that machine than it is on mine. Funny thing…Fallout 3 crashes on my wife’s computer, but not on mine. Seriously…wtf? ;)

On a “better machine”, the graphics of FE look a hell of a lot better, but not where it probably should be for this market…but at the same time it’s exactly where it only could be for an indie title. Gamers who judge a games quality on eye candy will probably not like it at all, but it does have it’s charm for sure.

I want to hammer home the fact that you pretty much have to make everything in this game. I can’t over state how central this will be to the games success. I found myself doing nothing but crafting quests while killing prairie chickens (..just for the fun of it..) and scavenging for materials for other quests…all doable in parallel. So, it seems like the whole game system is set up in a way that has your character always doing something, i.e. crafting, questing, traveling, scavenging…or all of the above.

It does have the potential to really grow on me and it’s starting to get into the “LOTRO beta danger zone”, in that I better stop playing soon. On another note that the dev team seems extremely busy with medium to huge patches on an almost daily basis…and the game seems to be getting more solid with each patch.

Last night, I was also keeping an eye on the general chat to sort of take the temperature of the personification of the community. Very mature and helpful community so far. There are a few gamers int here saying “not for me”, or “this is too hard”…but they seem to be in the minority as far as I can tell. Overall, I get a good vibe from the community in the game…which is a good start for FE.

…I’m still on the fence myself for FE just purely on the performance issue. I wish to Zeus I knew why I only get 10 FPS with this game.

D Out.

Don’t know if ya read or not yet, but Launch of FE has been pushed back to the 15th for more optimisation :) – hopefully the performance issues you experience will be cut down with the extra patch time.

I think the graphics are a trade off. The starting area, Sector 1 is enormous. I have never been to Sector 2 so I don’t know if there is a portal or if it is an open world. I think it would take me a half hour just to get up there.

The delay is good, I commend them for that. Maybe then this game will break a mold that needs to be broken

I was trialing this last night, and my frame rate was generally between 30-40. I did notice that the game stutters every so often, perhaps as it loads some distant scenery.
