…are you out of your fuckin mind?!?!

Here’s the deal….and I’m absolutely disgusted by this. A “permanent” horse in Runes of Magic, it is 199 diamonds…let’s call it 200 cause that’s what it really should be (…seriously guys…time to start rounding things up…). 200 diamonds cost $10.94 Canadian.

Are you seriously telling me, with a straight face, that a digital HORSE costs me $10…FUCKING..DOLLARS!!!@!@ That’s if you want to buy it outright…for cash. You can buy diamonds on the auction house which you can then buy the horse…but good gawd. The horses dollar value straight up is almost as much as an entire subscription.

Out of whack…with reality.

D out.

Wait until you try your hand at crafting….

  2. Cuppycake says:

The only thing I can realistically see myself buying in RoM *is* a horse. So $10 isn’t much to pay for months of playtime. :)

  3. hudson says:

Well you all wanted RMT and here it comes :)

After all the horse does get you around pretty well and can be used at any level right?

  4. Ceadrick says:

Would you pay 10 bucks in another game for a mount, or is it only this game that you think it’s outrageous? I would pay 10 bucks for a mount in WoW at level one if it were offered.

  5. Andrew says:

That seems as crazy as $5 for a pet in Free Realms…. and yet they sold in bunches. I’ll bet people buy horses in vast numbers.

  6. p0wl says:

At first it seems crazy, but if it’s the only thing you buy this month it’s not as bad as a normal MMO sub.

  7. Stabs says:

Darren, how can you have daughters and think $10 for a horse is outrageous. Wait till one of them decides she wants a pony and watch your bank balance go into critical status!

  8. Yeebo says:

I don’t know. Depends on what if anything you have to spend money on in RoM otherwise. The short time I played it didn’t seem like you “had” to buy anything. Ten bucks for a horse on top of paying for classes and zones or something would be a real bitch. However, if that’s all you’ll likely want to buy the whole time you play it seems reasonable.

  9. Xelous says:

Hold on, if you can get these diamonds at the auction, what are you paying for them on the auction with?… If it’s in game material, generated by grinding or questing, then do the maths…

(How long will it take me to grind the materials for the diamonds vs How long before I get bored ) X What is my time worth to me?

If it’d take a month to grind the horse, and all that time it is a struggle or impediment to not have it, then pay the tenner.

  10. mer says:

the price of diamonds has gone way up but at one point you could by 1 diamond for 6000-7000 in game currency. now its something like 100,000 so less useful.

  11. Saylah says:

$10 for a permanent mount in a game you didn’t have to buy or pay for monthly is nothing. You can have it day one and didn’t grind for gold. Or you can grind gold just like the other subscriptions models and buy diamonds on the Auction House. But seriously, the weeks it took me to grind gold across accounts for mounts it WOW (even pre xpacs) was a hell of a lot more of my time than $10. I guess it’s how you value your time. For me, my time is worth WAY more than 10 bucks.

  12. Kinar says:

I get it. You’d rather have paid $30 for the game, $15 a month on the sub, and had to have waited 30 levels before you could buy the mount for a crazy amount of in game cash. A one time payment of $10 for a mount that you really don’t need is just crazy. You’re absolutely right.

  13. Keen says:

Ask and you shall receive. People want icrotransactions/RMT and this is what you get. I think it’s time for more people to join the anti-RMT/microtransaction initiative.

  14. Andrew says:

    @Keen:
That’s a terrible initiative for any gamer who (a) is not made of money, and (b) likes to play more than one game at a time. I’ll take my RMT, thank you.

  15. Blakyce says:

I believe it was 100,000 plat for a fast mount in EQ back in the day and there were a bunch of people who had them. If one was to buy the plat for real dollars at that time would have cost much more than $10. Now this was for a mount that traveled faster than SOW so it had value. I got mine from bazaar grinding but if it was an RMT game my time would have been better spent forking over the cash.

  16. Jeremy S. says:

This game is probably the most fair micro-transaction game on the market. Anything in shop only speeds up gameplay for you.

I have been a non-cs user for my entire 3+ months playing the game. I will eventually spend, and the first thing I will get “is” a horse.

You’ll have it forever and ever, and use it ALL the time to get around. You aren’t even attempting to draw a “fairness” comparison are you?

Simply on the basis of the world’s real markets and currencies and cost of things, and compared to other f2p games and what you pay for items.

It sounds pretty reasonable to me, for a mount you’ll have forever, and can get regardless of level or any other restrictions, and it speeds you up 60%

After even a month of gameplay, let’s see how players feel about it’s worth, after having them walk on foot everywhere for that period of time, or what about 3 months?

On top of that, you can still rent a horse with in-game gold. So if you think paying is not worth it, just rent the horse in-game.

Wanna know what’s even worse ?

Paying $80 for a game+2 expansions, $15 a month for months on end and finally hitting a point where you have some awesome gear going. You’ve spend countless hours per day doing raids to get this gear. And then guess what ?

Someone hacks your account and all your T7.5/T8 gear is gone, you contact Blizz about it and they tell you “we’re sorry, we couldn’t find any records of what items you owned before the hacking occured, so we can’t return anything to you” .

Yeah, I guess when you have 10+ million subscribers it doesn’t really matter if you screw some over huh ? They’ll be replaced

I’ll take that $10 horse with pride.

  22. Chris says:

Buying a mount is like buying the game for 10€ which isn’t really expensive for a good game.

Of course I can also understand people who doesn’t buy because they expect a free2play to be _free_ to play.

Then again, it’s your own choice if you wish to buy a mount with euros or grind for it.

I chose to buy it because I also consider it a lot cheaper than e.g. mount in wow.
