Will McQuaid Return?

Looks like he’s starting to resurface a bit:

Since then I’ve recuperated and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. I spend a lot of time playing Magic: the Gathering at the local comic book shop. I ride street bikes and dirt bikes, as well as drive sports cars, as often as possible. Of course I still love to play computer and console games — I just picked up Halo Wars, as I enjoy a good RTS. And I enjoy going to the movies with my family (Star Trek was amazing!!).

But in the last few months I’ve really felt that desire to be back in the industry and creating games. I’ve been putting feelers out and weighing my options. Part of me ‘reaching out again’ is this website and blog. It really feels good to return from my self-imposed exile :) Hello everyone, I’m back!

Go on over and post your support, as I’m sure it’s been a bit of a journey for him.

What do I think about him getting back into the industry? Well, Vanguard’s mistakes and launch were pretty much aimed right, square at him…and that can be a lot to handle. Coupled with Sigil completely going “poof”…peoples jobs going “poof” as well. I’m sure plenty of folks within the industry might have some issues and would not like to work with him again. However, I think he was suffering with a lot more than we think and a personal level I can’t really say that he should never touch another game. I just can’t say that.

I think we’ve all exercised quite a bit of Vanguard and what went wrong. I also think it’s a great test case of what not to do. It had to happen at some point to show others “the way”. I think we’re going to keep using the two extremes of MMO games (WoW…Vanguard) to measure other games, but I think it might be time to start decoupling Brad from it.

…welcome back Brad and good luck.

D out.
