Yes…I found my first wormhole in Eve:

Pretty little thing, ain’t it.

I must have looked at it for a good 5-10 minutes before deciding what to do about this discovery. Do I move on…satisfied by the fact that I just found one? Or…do I grab a ship that I can afford to loose and jump right in to see what’s in there? I opted for the later…of course ;)

Hmmm…what can I loose. Ah yes, my Caracal. Nice little cruiser that it is, I was in no mood to lose my fully fitted mission running Drake nor my newly acquired, freshly painted CNR. So…off I went into the great unknown taking comfort in the fact that I will die. Basically, the mission that I set out for myself was this: warp to every planet and see if somebody finds me and ultimately, teaches me the lesson of how cold space really is. I warped to all 4 planets and….nothing. Nobody home apparently. Ok then.

Next mission I gave myself (…cause that’s what you do in Eve…) was to do a scan of the system, just to see what is out there. Ahhhhh ha! A sleeper “Outpost”. That sounds like fun. So I warped over there and I found one Battleship and three stationary turret guns. I decided to go ask for directions. They didn’t know where the local 7-11 was, but they did know how to reduce my shields by 50% in one shot. I kinda warped outta there very quickly as it was now clear that I was severely outclassed in the cruiser.

I found myself sitting outside the wormhole wondering if it was worth it to raise the stakes a bit. Obviously, the CNR was out of the question. There is no way in hell that I was risking that ship. I have plans for that ship. So, that left the Drake. As my main mission ship for the last year or so, I knew that it could probably handle these guys. So, I got the Drake out and went back. Turns out, I was incorrect. As much as I think my Drake kicks ass, I could not hold my tank with these guys…so, I warped again. Failure…thy name is sleeper. Adam decided to join at this time…so now we had a Drake and a Golem. I think we just didn’t have the coordination right, but we both ended up warping outta there as well.

I think I am missing some skills that would help make handling these guys a bit easier. I’ll have to look into that a bit. Suffice to say, The Sleepers are some tough little buggers and I wouldn’t recommend trying them on your own unless you know what you’re doing…and clearly, I do not.

D out

The word you’re looking for is lose, not loose.

    Welcome to wormhole exploration
Sounds like you landed in a Class 3 or above off the bat – Class 1’s are cruiser friendly – class 2’s not so much so. Also weirdly I’ve found a rather oddball fit Jaguar tends to have less problems than either Drakes or Battleships. Suggestion: fit an AB and keep your speed up – it makes a huge difference I’ve had 1 BS and 5 cruisers shooting at me when everyone else had to warp out and my tank was stable at 75% (ok it’s a rather special jag but still)

These are not the wormholes you are looking for…

Nice, i love w-hole space.a properly fitted drake with good skills is great for any thing up to about a class 3 after that bring a marauder or a very good command ship. i’ve seen battle cruisers with pretty neat tanks get insta popped in a class 6

I’ve been running various versions of Hurricanes in W-space, and the best “solo” one (with an alt scanner/hauler around) was definitely a passive-shield tank, to the teeth. 3 Core Shield Purgers, lots of Shield Power Relays, 2 Inv 2s and 2 LSE 2s, and guns. Assault launcher to deal with frigs, the rest long-range arties. Oh yeah, 3 medium drones live a hell of a lot longer than 5-6 smalls.

The most important thing to find out before you go diving in is the class of the system… “unknown” can be class 1-3, “dangerous” is 4-5, and “deadly” is 6. If you are truly solo, I’d stick to Class 1s, you should be able to farm them without too much pain. Of course if you clear a mag/radar site, you’ll have to go find a ship that can reap the rewards (worth a ton of money), and if you clear a ladar site, you’d have to have a gas-harvesting ship around to use it, and a hauler to really use it, and the list goes on.

I’m up to 3 characters now, the 3rd being added just to harvest gas, the 2nd being a hauler/covops, and my main in the ‘cane. And still having a rough time trying to solo… which I don’t even try much. Small gangs really punish the class 1-3 systems, and it’s a lot more fun. And of course I bring all 3 guys, because it just adds so much more to the party.
