Looking at Spellborn…which has been getting quite a bit of love.
Hmmmm, I think I may need to check this thing out. I remember getting a demo at GDC last year and thinking ‘maybe”. I absolutely was impressed by the graphics (…Tipa’s screenies do it no justice…) and the shard boat that we were shown at the time.
They seem to be taking the the road of “player skill over math” approach, which I’m all for, but at the same time, I also don’t want to see a click fest. I think they will be offsetting that with the skill system they have.
…I’ll have more thoughts once I actually play the game.
In other playing news, Sacred 2 seems to be taking up all of my time in gaming these days beyond LOTRO sessions with the usual crowd. I am having a blast with this game and I’m personally thrilled that I’ve somehow found the fun in a game like this again after failing to find it in others.
My character is really sexy…
I know…I know…don’t say it
This game is a hack-and-slash wet dream….and you should expect nothing more or less if you pick it up. There is a multiplayer component to it, but I have yet to take a peak.
Next on the single player game list:
- Witcher
- Tomb Raider: Underworld
D out.

I highly recommend Prince of Persia (even for the PC) before you do anything else beyond Sacred 2.
I just got it myself, and am totally digging it. If you like platform adventure games with a nice dose of action on the side, it’s a good one.

I had no idea that Sacred 2 was even out? Cool, thanks D!

I am not very far into Sacred 2 at all, but I agree, so far it is very nice. However, it has major problems. Upon initial install the game would crash on me. I tried to update the game with their auto-updated and it failed to connect to their servers. After manually downloading them the patch wouldn’t install because it thought I had tampered with game files. The official word on how to fix this was to completely uninstall the game, reinstall, and before running the game at all, apply the patches. That worked, but it took hours and even after all of that … the game STILL crashed to desktop every time.
Turns out that there is some sort of issue the game has with openAL if you have an X-fi or creative labs software installed that tries to use it. I had to dig into a config file and disable openAL. THIS finally got it to work for me. However, it will also crash to desktop for me if I have x-fire running.
I am sure that they will eventually fix these problems, but buyers beware for now. All of that being said, I am loving the game despite the herculean efforts required to get it to even run for me.

Ah, I’ll wait for Diablo 3 then. :$ Thanks Rob.

If I wasn’t knee deep in Middle-Earth right now, I’d be considering trying out Spellborn. Some of their innovative ideas sound intriguing.

Smaken…I haven’t encountered any of the issues that Rob has encountered beyond not being able to install the latest patch (2.34) and some minor graphics glitches. Some quests are also a bit broken…but that’s it. Other than that, I think it’s a safe buy.

I didn’t realize Sacred 2 was out either. I’ve been borderline looking forward to that one. I take it you’re playing on the PC? I’d like to try the 360 version.
